Amara Lake belongs to the category of plain salt lakes developed on loessoide deposits and is the largest lake spa - treatment from Campia Romana region. This lake is known for the mud used to treat various diseases. The mud is black (in the air becomes gray), greasy, salty and has a very strong smell of hydrogen sulphide. It contains 41% inorganic salts, 39% organic substances and 20% water. The organic substances (the nature of animal and vegetable) and the inorganic substances which are found in the mud are: sulphate, calcium, iron, magnesium, sodium chloride, sodium hiposulfit, hydrogen sulfide, hidrocarbosulfit, sodium carbonate, the calcium, sulfur-free, sodium acetate, ammonium nitrate, formic acid, glutamate, butyrate, propyl, chlorophyll-resorcin, pirocatechin and Erin. The mud's thickness is 30 - 60 centimeters.

Stretching over an area of 156 hectares (mentions Grigore Posea and his collaborators in the work of 1982), Amara lake has a length of four kilometers, a width ranging between 200 and 800 meters and a depth of over 3m. It is powered with drip water which washes the  eflorescents made at the surface of the rocks from Campina Romana with the underground waters full of salts (mainly sulfates and chlorides).

The magnesium sulphate and the sodium sulphate, dissolved in large amounts in the lake water, give a very bitter taste that masks the salty taste. Lake Amara appears in the work Romania: the travel and tourism potential of 2001, seems to be, yet very valuable, also harnessed through the therapeutic and cosmetic products internationally recognized, Pelamar type .

The beneficial properties of the resort are visible; in this regard the resort is recommended for the treatment of rheumatic diseases (spondylosis, arthrosis, polyarthritis) and inflammatory rheumatic diseases (articular rheumatism), gynecological (metrosalpingitis chronic ovarian failure, secondary sterility) and dysfunction associated (dermatological, endocrine).
