Description

On the plateau of the Bucegi Mountains there are magnificent cliffs with many strange forms, that were named in the folk tradition "Babele". In geography, these rocks with bizarre shapes are called "mushrooms".

Over the entire Carpathian chain are found different sumptuous stone columns which from a distance resemble with the human figure. About those, people say that the different personalities would be mythical. "Babele" are a rock complex that is found near the peak Baba Mare (2292 m altitude). These forms are the result of the corasion, which has eroded limestone and sandstone of which they are formed.

Historians say that "Babele", traditional name that proves that these monuments were once simulacra of Deae veteres, mountain divinity called by the Romans. The access to these stone columns can be made by cable car or mountain route from Busteni through Jepilor Valley or from Piatra Arsa cabanne.
