Baile Olanesti

Olanesti, judetul Valcea

AddressBaile Olanesti

Description

Recognized worldwide, especially to treat gastro-duodenal diseases, liver and kidney, Baile Olanesti has an infallible weapon: source 7 "Cristal" and  "Imperial"15 defeat allergies of any kind. Baile Olanesti is one of the few places in the country which harmoniously meets two natural cure factors: climatic factor and local topoclimatic factor, and hidromineral factor consisting of mineral waters.

Baile Olanesti occupies the first place among the spa resorts in Romania regarding the number of springs, the total daily flow of them, variety of the composition and of the concentration of mineral waters. In the resort there are over 35 sources of mineral waters, as natural springs but as a result of mining and drilling works (wells and galleries) too. A number of 15 mineral springs are captured for internal cure are not abstracted. Two mineral springs and four wells with mineral water are used to external cure.

In 1873 at Dr. Carol Davila' advice, samples of mineral waters from Olanesti were sent to the International Exhibition in Vienna, where it won the gold medal. The famous chemist Bernath Iondway showed 40 mineral springs and analyzed a number of 23 sources of mineral waters distributed in 4 areas: Olanesti Valley, Tisa River Valley,  Valley Buduroiu and Valley Ripuroasa.

Once finished capturing, mineral water sources have been undergone to physical and chemical investigations by Dr. Krizon in Prague, and chemists Schwartz and Meta from the Institute of Geology, Dr. V. Bianu, Dr. C. Mihailescu, Dr. L. Alexiu., Dr. P. Petrescu.
In 1926, after analysis, the mineral springs of Olanesti were classified into 3 groups after the concentration:
  • hypotonic-water (mineral springs No: 24,12,11,14,10,6);
  • isotonic-water (mineral springs No: 5,7,30);
  • easy-hypertonic water (no mineral springs: 19,3,20).
Following other studies in comparation with mineral waters in Europe, it was found that the mineral spring No. 24 of Baile Olanesti, equaling or exceeding the water from Contrexville, Karlsbad, Martingni, Viltel, Evian, Tahanon; mineral springs No. 3 and No. 9 have similar qualities of mineral waters from Ems, Eaux Bonnes.

The mineral spring No. 2 has equal or superior action to the mineral waters from Eaux-Bonnes, Barroger, Aix-les-Bains, Baden, Weisbaden, Achen, mineral source No. 20 (used for baths) exceeds the qualities of the ones from Hall, Salies de Beaurn, Bax, Eaux Bonnes.

The element with the most important biological value is the hydrogen sulfide, which is unstable, giving birth either elemental sulfur or polisulfhidric acids and their salts. The biological activity is related to the speed with which they are absorbed by the body.

Regarding the drinking of the water, after the research conducted by the Institute of Biological Sciences in Bucharest, proved that biochemical analysis indicates the absence of enzymatic activities, pathogenic germs are missing, the waters being included in drinking limits allowed by law.
