Barlad Academy

Barlad, judetul Vaslui

AddressBlvd. Republicii, 235

Barlad crossed some phases with interesting achievements, until the First World War. Here they had established the newspaper "Semanatorul" (first number-27 September 1870, editors - Ion Popescu and Stefan Neagoe), with its intense local importance; here we highlight the magazine "Fat - Frumos" (1904) of George Tutoveanu and Emil Garleanu, the only magazine of interest  which greatly exceeded the boundaries of the originary city. The school had made a huge step,  entering the training concerns of people.

Barlad interwar period is characterized by a very rich literary production, with an extremely large value, which is why Serban Cioculescu called it "the second of our classical, with a contributor, representing the publishing, the work and the literary talent". A first step towards the fulfillment - even local - in this period, consists of the foundation of Barlad Academy under the auspices of which were published magazines, books of literature, were held extensive cultural events.

The activity of Barlad Academy, led by George Tutoveanu, Tudor Pamfile and Toma Chiricuta, was characterized by diversity events, attended not only active members of the Academy but also a large audience. The literary society increased its activity and quantity and quality by 1920. There were made the public settlements, over 60 in number, where teached George Tutoveanu, G.G. Ursu, Victor Ion Popa, Mircea Pavelescu, George Pallady, Ionel Teodoreanu, Anastasius Mandru, Tudor Vianu, I.A. Basarabescu.

The journals which Barlad Academy printed, published literature of the highest quality, in terms of aesthetic values. Especially, it must be mentioned "Florile Dalbe" - "first postwar literary production" (G.G. Ursu - Barlad Academy, in the journal "Romania Literara", year. V, November 16, 1927, p. 7), printed in 1919.

The most loyal and productive employees of the magazine were George Tutoveanu and Tudor Pamfile, present in each of the 23 editions of the publication, first in poetry, the second with prose. Well-known are the pleadings of Toma Chiticuta and Ion Valerian in favor of Lucian Blaga's poetry and the volumes "Cuvinte potrivite" by Tudor Arghezi and "Poema rondelelor" by Alexander Macedonschi were beautifully presented by G.G. Ursu, Vasile Damaschin and George Nedelea.

Barlad Academy offers sufficient opportunities to be appreciated not only by facts, but by intentions, after its founders' dream after ideals.
