Barnova Monastery

judetul Iasi, Moldova

AddressLoc. Barnova,

Barnova Monastery is a monastery of monks located near Iasi city, in the forests of the Moldovan Central Plateau, under Pietrarie hill  in village Barnova. The access to the monastery can be made by the way to Vaslui, immediately after the inn "Three stuffed cabbages", where on the right, starts a road by which one can reach Barnova village at 10km.

Barnova Monastery is located in a picturesque natural landscape, among trees that provide shade and is surrounded by strong walls with battlements. The gate has a bell tower, through which one enter the monastery. Neither the bell tower nor the inside walls have an inscription. The church has an imposing appearance, being built in the style of Galatea, with two towers, of which a massive one, over the porch and another thinner, decorated outside.

It was founded by the ruler of Moldova, Miron Barnovschi-Movila (1626-1629, 1633), from who has its name, but the works were completed by Prince Eustratie Dabija (1661-1666). The architectural plan of Barnova Monastery resembles to the one of Dragomirna Monastery, being part of all major architectural foundations of Moldova which combines from this point of view with the Byzantine and the Romanian architectural elements.
