Description

Built in the first half of the nineteenth century, can be visited at the base of the Fortress Hill. The castle consists of a single body building which includes 30 rooms.

In the main part it has a facade and a terrace equipped with Doric columns. The castle building, represents the type of a plain mansion, built in neoclassical style. In this building were carried the negotiations between General Gorgey, the supreme commander of the Hungarian revolutionary army from 1848-1849, and General Frolov, czarist agent, close to the unconditional surrender in August 13 1849.

In the castle is hosted a memorial museum dedicated to the great Romanian writer, Ioan Slavici (1848-1925), born in Siria. The museum, opened in 1960, illustrates moments of childhood, primary school, the years spent in Siria, then the years studies in Arad, Timisoara, Budapest and Vienna. A number of objects belongin to the writer are presented here, such as his office or his work room, furniture from his house living room in Bucharest, manuscripts, editions of his works, etc.

Also in Bohus castle there is also a permanent exhibition dedicated to the composer Emil Montia (1887-1965). Borned in Sicula, he spent most of life in a Siria village, living in the house on Spiru Haret Str., no. 130. The collection exhibits a series of articles that present the life and musical work, inspired by a huge source of popular art. Here you can see furniture from his work room, piano and cello composer, and various editions of his major works: "Girl from Cozia", "The Heir", "Earring", etc.

The castle is framed by three works of art: the bust of Ioan Slavici (1848-1925), designed by Ioan Tolan, the bust of Mihai Eminescu (1850-1889), made by the same sculptor and the statue of Ion Russu-Sirianu (1864-1909), work of the sculptor C. Balacescu. Near the castle there is Antonia Bohus monument, which became known by supporting revolutionaries imprisoned after 1849, among which Eftimie Murgu, and for the work done for the emancipation of women.
