Bucura Lake

Bucura Lake is situated in Retezat National Park of Retezat Mountains. Bucura Lake is the largest glacial lake in Romania. Located in Bucura circus, below Peleaga Peak and Bucura saddle, oriented north–south, the lake is situated at an altitude of 2040 m. It covers an area of 8.90 ha, has a length of 550 m, an average width of 160 m and the perimeter of approximately 1390 m.

The maximum width is 225 m and estimated volume is 625,000 mc. The maximum depth of water is 15.5 m, towards the entrance of Pelegii river in the lake. The lake's supply is made through main 5 sources. The lake's water discharges by one outlet that sends it to Lake Lia, at a rate of about 250 l per second.

The fishing stock is local, in the lake are not made artificial populations. The access to Bucura Lake is made from Hateg – Caransebes road, at km 61 (Carnesti) thorugh Clopotiva - Grebla - Gura Zlata - Gura Apei, 35 km. From here on the forest road which stops at Dracsanu, 14 km. Then, passing near the waterfall Fetele Voilesei, following Lapusnicul Mare Valley, to Gura Bucurii, and passing beside Lia Lake you reach Bucura.
