Cantacuzino Palace

Bucuresti, Muntenia

Phone021 3181450
AddressCalea Victoriei, 141

Cantacuzino Palace is found on Calea Victoriei boulevard, one of the oldest avenues in Bucharest. The palace was built in the early twentieth century, in Baroque style, after the architectural plans of I.D. Berindei.

Cantacuzino Palace was the residence of Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino "Nababul", one of the richest Romanians from early last century. The palace was turned into the George Enescu Memorial Museum in 1956 - dedicated to the great Romanian composer and conductor.

To Victoria Road is situated the front and symmetrical façade of the Palace. It includes four levels: a high basement, a ground floor with arc windows and balconies of heavy stone, the first floor has straight windows and forged railings, the second floor with an attic richly decorated.

Cantacuzino Palace facades attract the visitors through the covered entrance, fan shaped and guarded by two lions.
Inside the palace stands out the ground floor room with ceilings painted by Vermont and G. D. Mirea.

After the death of Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, the Palace came into possession of his son Mihai who left the palace to his wife by Maruca, remarried after his death with George Enescu.

The secondary building is linked by wide terraces directly to the palace and to the former park surrounding the palace, reaching the Lemnea street where is situated the secondary access to the palace.
