Copou Park

Iasi, judetul Iasi

Address,,Dealul Copoului

Copou Park or Copou Garden is the oldest park in Iasi, located on Copou hill. It dates from the first part of the nineteenth century, its improvement started in the years 1833-1834, with the guidance of Prince Mihail Sturza and in its center being placed the "Obelisk of lions", originally called "Monument of the Constitutional Laws", built after the plans of Gheorghe Asachi.

This monument was constructed in honor of the Russian general, Pavel Kiseleff and the reforms undertaken by him in Moldavia, some rumors saying that inside there is an organic document of the times of Al. I. Cuza. Also in this park takes its existence "Eminescu's linden tree", 100 years old and the museum dedicated to the same poet, founded in 1989 after architect Virgil Onofrei's plans.

In front of the linden tree is the bronze face of Eminescu, caressed by the sun. A series of busts dedicated to some great personalities of Romanian culture ward the main alley of the park, the "Alley Junimea", where there are the bronze statues of Veronica Micle and Junimea members: Nicolae Gane (I. Irimescu), Ion Creanga (author I. Dimitriu), Costache Negruzzi and Ciprian Porumbescu (I. Barleanu). Every year in park Copou takes place the National Ceramics Fair "Cucuteni", which bring together master potters from all over Romania.
