Cucuteni-Tripolie Culture

Cucuteni, judetul Iasi

Cucuteni-Tripolie Culture is part of the protohistory of Europe, being spread on almost 350,000 square kilometers in eastern Romania, Moldova, western Ukraine between the beginning of IV millennium BC and mid third millennium BC. The painted ceramics are typical to Cucuteni-Tripolie culture, discoveries made in Cucuteni, Poduri, Dumesti, Izvoare, Tarpesti, Draguseni are found at the Eneolitic Art Museum in Piatra Neamt or history museums in Vaslui, Bacau and Iasi.

Cucuteni-Tripolie culture developed in the same period with Petresti and Gumelnita cultures. In the Romanian cultural space was set the name of "Cucuteni culture" and for the Ukrainian cultural space is kept the name of "Tripolie culture". The problems appeared because of the conservation of the Geto-Dacian princely tomb is the consequence of intervention manner, since the archaeological research and until 1989, interventions that didn' take into account the principles of preventive conservation.

Over time, the architectural ensemble was totally discovered of the thin layer of humus, from which were left four transverse strips, as witnesses. The dromos was entirely discovered, but this solution was not very well chosen. Also, in the center chamber was kept a blank rectangular stone, to show how the grave were filled with earth and stones and the maximum height of the tumulus, a witness whose purpose it is not too well understood by visitors.

But the building constructed around the tomb, in order to protect the monument, created a microclimate, which is not the most suitable. In the summer, because of the greenhouse effect, the temperature and humidity reach high levels, and in winter, the space not being heated, the temperature is below zero degrees Celsius; also because of the museum building, disappeared any possibility of wetting by precipitation. All of these items damaged the monument, large cracks appeared in witnesses and some stones of the enclosure structure have collapsed.
