Ion Borcea Memorial House

judetul Bacau, Moldova

AddressCom. Racova,

Description

"Ion Borcea" Memorial House is located in the village Racova, Bacau County. It is a Transylvanian-style building, of over two centuries, situated in the middle of the village, on the left side of the river Racova. The scientist Ion Borcea (1879-1937) dedicated his life to the knowledge of marine ecosystems, being also the founder of Romanian oceanography and Maritime Research Station of Agigea.
The building from Racova was donated to the County Committee for Culture and Art Bacau by Eufrosina Borcea, sister of the scientist Ion Borcea.

The house was built by the priest Ion Marcu and Ecaterina, who came over the mountains, resting here with many parishioners and have decided to settle in these places, being attracted by the tranquility and beauty of places covered then, mostly by forest.

The house was the residence of several generations of priests and now hosts an exhibition in memory of the scientist Ion Borcea. The exhibition at the memorial house exposes aspects of its life and activity, presented with photos of age, exhibits and authentic pieces of furniture. The exhibition was refurbished in 1999 by curators from the Ion Borcea Natural Sciences Museum Complex in Bacau, giving the visitors pieces of the scientist biologist's life who spent here many years.
