Description

Open to the visitors in 1983, the house where the poet John Siugariu was born, holds manuscripts, photographs, family correspondence, furniture and objects specific to the mining area.

The first born out of the six children of the family Ion and Florea Sugar, Ion Siugariu was born on June 6, 1914, in the village Baita, a village near Baia Mare. He follows the classes from Baita Primary School and after finishing the fourth grade, he's admitted as a student at the Normal School in Oradea.

In June 1932 he passed in the Upper Secondary School "Emmanuel Gojdu" from Oradea. The artistic effervescence started in Transylvania in 1933 and corresponds to the high school years of Ion Siugariu. In such an environment, the exceptional qualities of John Siugariu student are not delayed, so he is remarked through his power of perception, analysis and understanding of new lyrical phenomenon.

In May-June 1934 he debuts in the magazine "Center", a publication of the High School of Beius, with the poem "Anthem of Youth". Ion Siugariu in 1936 joined the Reserve Officers School in Ploiesti, and in September 1937, he enrolls at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, the Modern Philology specialty, following a period in which he lives only for poetry. Along with the young generation of writers with whom the collaborates on a series of publications in the Capital and in the provinces, the poet consolidates friendships and connections with many literary friends.

As president of the Association of Refugee Students, elected in November, he conducted a fruitful journalistic and organizational activity. Ion Siugariu was concentrated as a reserve training officer at a school in Ploiesti, then he was assigned to an infantry regiment in Bacau, in January 1943. He married in July 1943 in Ramnicu - Valcea with Lucia Stroescu a pharmacy student. It goes to the front at 30 km from Baita, and remained in the wilderness of Hungary, Czechoslovakia till Tatra ground in May 1944.
Thanks to his dairy, he offers the opportunity to know the things that happened in the war, the mood of the soldier. This is more a diary of moods than of acts of war.

In the battle for the city Brezno (Czechoslovakia), he was seriously injured in the explosion of an enemy missile. He ldied at 1 February 1945.
