Description

Hosted by the spaces of Teleki Library, Ion Vlasiu Gallery was founded in 1988 following the donations by the master Ion Vlasiu, sculptor, painter and writer from Targu Mures. Vlasiu's triple vocation, best known as a sculptor, but almost equally as painter and writer, didn't led him to an eclecticism of endowments. His paintings have searched the road to read off the human soul.

He has the nostalgia of the village as queen of the national collective soul, to which feels solidarity and whose survival would like to ensure in the middle of a contemporary human drama. On the line of tradition, he looks for grandeur of strong color, plant combined with a rhythmic decoration reaching to basic images, stylized appearance and primitive vibrations.

Village world, landscape, history are areas from which he chooses the preference of themes presented in the form of metaphor and symbol. Ages of man and time of his life, the representation of characters of the daily and anonymous world of the village or the history and national culture are favorite subjects. Through its sculpture he is looking to get those ancient, originary forms, which resembles simple bodies, produced by the forces of nature.

Regardless of material used - stone, wood, plaster - he tries to recreate the pure form. In a continuous communication with the space universe of his homeland, he gives life to this so complex world creating in a laconic language heads of children, golden-agers, peasants, intellectuals or heroes. Through morphologies and style, his sculpture - especially representations of totemic style and the works inspired by fairy tales and legends - is tied directly to the traditions of this nation.

Ion Vasliu novels in which autobiography reaches the  literary fiction dimension without losing authenticity of the life, define the human and artistic structure whose villageoise background is undeniable in all its hypostasis. In prose memoirs, in sculpture and painting, Ion Vlasiu lives the permanently revelation of the outside world and his inner world with a genuine dramatically sense.
