Izvorul Muntelui - Bicaz Source of accumulation

Bicaz, judetul Neamt

Description

"Izvorul Muntelui" Source of accumulation, also known as "Lake Bicaz", finds at the nearest extreme of Bicaz, Bistrita valley, where was built the dam in the 60's. It is the largest artificial lake (anthropogenic). The lake formed after the construction of the Bistrita hydropower dam, on the upper sector of the namesake river. For fitting the lake was needed the relocation of many villages on the banks of the Bistrita river, in other counties. From the top Toaca can be seen in bright days the impressive lake lying on Bistrita Valley. From the highway that crosses the lake and connects Bicaz of Campulung Moldovenesc, Ceahlau Massif can be admired from all angles, being surrounded by the route.

After the measurements, it was found that the light doesn't penetrate into the lake at depths of over 35-40 m, which determines different physical conditions for life development. The light intensity increases from upstream to downstream.

The thermal and freezing regime of water in lakes is reflected in a complex of factors that act at the same time on the masses of water accumulated in the lake barrier absins. In the case of Izvoru Muntelui - Bicaz, the decisive role on the thermal and freezing regime is represented by the factors, primarily related to the way of supplying and the mass dynamics of the water, but also to its geographical position.

On the route, at Poiana Teiului, the road branches out into two: one part goes to Transylvania, passing over a viaduct to Ceahlau village - great place for fans of agri-tourism - and Durau resort, and the other returns from Targu Neamt, passing nearby Petru Voda Monastery, spiritual halidom of Iustin priest who makes several pilgrimages for believers to be organized in the area. At the farthest extreme, the tail of the lake, as they call it, there is a high viaduct - a bridge crossing across the lake. From the viaduct from Poaina Teiului one can see the Devil's Rock.
