Lady's Church

Bucuresti, Muntenia

Phone021 3144910
AddressCalea Victoriei, 28

The church was built by Mrs. Mary and her husband Serban Cantacuzino in 1683 and present a mural painting from the XVIIth century made by Constantinos Mina. The Church’s facades are decorated with two registers of blind niches, surrounded by rounded beading and a porch with 8 stone columns. The church is located at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue with Victory Avenue in Bucharest. The church was first built of wood in the place of an old church.

The Lady's Church was designed from the start as a chapel, not just a mansion, but a future royal residence.
The church was dedicated on October 28 1689 to the Cotroceni Monastery, founded by her husband. The interior painting was executed by the painters Constantin and Ioan.

The church is damaged after the earthquakes in 1802,1827,1829,1838, so between 1854-1856, when photographed by Ludwig Augerer, from the Austrian army of occupation, the church had only the bell tower, perhaps, after the shape and the material’s cut, originating from Pantocrator tower.

Soon after, the church was completely repaired before 1868, when the bell tower mentioned above is knocked down and replaced with another of wood and board, repaired again in 1869 and 1906. The Doamnei Church was declared a historical monument by the Royal Decree in 1915.
