Marcuta Church was built between 1586-1587 and included in the category of old historic building in Bucharest.
This touristic site prezents structure and decorative elements. Inside the Marcuta Church there still are paintings dating back to the XVI centuries.

Inside this worship place there are preserved sixteenth-century paintings and pictures that represent the armas Marcu. Over time the Marcuta Church is restored several times, renovated between years 1632-1654, 1678-1688 and 1966-1967.

With a perfect strategic location, a swampy area near Lake Fundeni, Marcuta Monastery, with three rows of gates, with fortifications that after renovations in 1632-1654 allowed the use of fire arms, was a perfect place to find shelter in case of enemy invasion.

This church, along with Vacaresti Monastery, Plumbuita Monastery constituted a strategic chain of Bucharest, with fortified places usefull for the withdrawal of rich families in case of invasion or riot. An extensive set of tunnels helped the people to find shelter .

Marcuta Monastery
hosted in its complex of buildings a lazarette during the plague outbreak in 1813, and later in the period 1829-1924, was established a hospital for people with mental dysfunctions.
