Maria Therezia Bastion

Maria Therezia Bastion is important for the history of the town Timisoara, representing most of the old fortress wall of the city.
Today used as a commercial space, one for recreation, Maria Therezia bastion is the place where the visitor can find two of the Banat Museum’s permanent exhibitions, the “information and communications technology exhibition" and "Violin- a passion for life."
In the Bastion, the tourist can visit the Department of Ethnography of the Village Museum.

Maria Therezia Bastion
is one of the 9 bastions of the old fortress. Each bastion of wears the name of important emperors and empresses: Charles, Francis, Theresa, Iosef, Hamilton, Castelul, Mercy, Eugeniu and Elizabeth. Of all the bastions, five were destroyed to allow the city's development. The Fortress - bastion style in stellar form was built in 1716, after the city was conquered by the Habsburg, to upgrade the defense and to face new battle techniques.

In 1891, three gates are demolished, gates that allowed the access to the castle (gate of Vienna, Petrovaradin and Ardeal).
Currently, there are two fragments of the fortress wall in Timisoara in the botanical park on the Ioan Cuza street.
