Located in Braila, the birthplace of one of the best known Romanian historians and literary critics - S. Dumitru Panaitescu.

Besides his contributions in the field of literary criticism Dumitru S. Panaitescu, which takes in 1910 Perpessicius nickname, is also known as a folklorist, poet and essayist, editor and researcher of Eminescu’s work.

The building where he lived, a prominent member of the Romanian Academy, is enrolled in the National List of Monuments, Ensembles and Historic Sites.

Panaitescu old family house, built around 1880, receives the museum status On October 28, 1977.

In 1982, was acquired much of the Perpessicius ‘s library - about 7,000 books, to which joined significant collections of magazines, newspapers and furniture.

After 1990, the house was closed for repairs, and would be reopened in 1994, upon finalizing the construction of Perpessicius marble bust, sculpted by Nicapetre.
