Memorial House Gala Galaction

Bucuresti, Muntenia

Phone021 2243161
AddressGala Galaction, 51

Located in a north neighbourhood of Bucharest, on the street which today bears the name of the writer (former Michael Cornea), the house was built in 1912; his family (parents and four daughters) moved here three years later, as recorded on the planted memorial plaque on the frontispiece of the building.

The house became a museum thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Elena Galaction - Stanciulescu, who donated the building and the property on May 28, 1993.
The ground floor consists of a living room where a window shows various photographs illustrating the novelist with his close friends: Tudor Arghezi, N.D. Cocea and Vasile Demetrius.

Here we also find some manuscripts, cards, writing articles and the most important exhibit, the Bible, translated by Gala Galaction.
The walls are wallpaper, generally, with the paintings of one of the daughters, Luky Galaction, who laid out in the country and in Italy, where she spent most of her life (being married Passarelli). At the existing parts in the house at the time of donation there were added 21 others, donated by the author on July 7, 1994. The works’ theme is dominated by family: father, mother, sisters and son - Giovanni Galaction.

Partly we meet other signatures: Dan Stanciulescu (former husband of Helen), Dimitrie Bezea, Constantin Isake and, more important, a George Apostu with a sketch in pencil which represents Gala Galaction.
The Memorial House Gala Galaction is opened for visitors since 1994.
