Merchants House

Brasov, judetul Brasov

AddressPiata Sfatului, 14-15

Merchants' House is also known as the Trade House (Currently Corona galleries). Merchants' House was used as Brasov market House since the XVI century, being a place where there were located and sold many goods that were produced in the same place.

In the basement of the building there is a cellar built in the cylindrical vaults technique. At the ground floor and first floor, the arches were used to expose and sell products or to house the craftsmen's workshops. The basement was used as warehouse for shops and workshops from the Merchants' House. There is also a bar suggestively called "House of drunkenness".

Downstairs, there were found little workshops and shops where artisans and traders presented their products.
The Merchants' House was built following a promise made by Apollonia Hirscher as gratitude for the fact that her daughter was saved from death.

Tradition says that the girl had entered into clinical death and she recovered after the funeral in the tomb, being discovered by a poor sexton who tried to take her jewelry. In memory of this event,  Apollonia Hirscher and her daughter are painted in a fresco on the gable of the building Hirscher situated on street Michael Weiss 22 (corner with Republic Street).
