Metropolitan Antim Ivireanul Museum

Bucuresti, Muntenia

Phone021 6141060
AddressMitropolit Antim Ivireanul, 29

Metropolitan Museum is found inside the Antim Monastery. The Museum’s collection includes Brancoveanu art exhibits, history of printing and old books. The execution plans of the Antim monastery were made by the founder of Antim Monastery.

Until now, two of these plans have survived, namely: the original plan of the church, on paper, attached to his will relating to the monastery and another plan, drawn on parchment (in 1715) in the settlement of the monastery. Due to cultural activities and a high spiritual life, on March 16, 1705, Antim Ivireanul was elected bishop of Ramnic.

He founded a printing company here, where in 3 years, he writes new books, of which three are written in Romanian and three in Slavonic-Romanian bilingual edition. Bishop Antim Ivireanul writes "Tome Joy" (1706), against Catholics and “Liturghierul with Molitvelnicul? (1706), the first Romanian edition from Wallachia.

With the will of Metropolitan Theodosius, who guided the believers of the Romanian Country for 40 years, Bishop Antim is elevated to Metropolitan on February 22, 1708. At the enthronement also attended the patriarchs of Alexandria and Jerusalem.

Metropolitan Antim set up a new printer in Targoviste, where he wrote 18 books (11 in Romanian), introducing the people’s language and realizing what he started under Matei Basarab (typical) and Serban Cantacuzino (biblical texts).

In Romanian were already printed the books: "Psaltirea" (1710), "Octoihul" (1712), "Liturghierul" (1713), "Catavasierul", "Ceaslovul" (1715). There were left untranslated "Mineiele", "Triodul" and "Penticostarul".
