The Palace of Culture is located in Stefan cel Mare Square of Iasi city, in the central area and is classified as a historical monument of the county of Iasi, as "Palace of Culture Ensemble". The monumentality and expressiveness of the palace is an emblem of Iasi, but also of Moldova, being an unique and representative building and a special attraction for visitors.

Inaugurated on October 11, 1925, the building served as the Palace of Justice until 1955, when was destined to house one of the most important cultural institutions in Romania, integrated today as the Moldova National Museum Complex, Iasi.

The museum complex is in the Palace of Culture, an architectural monument built between 1907 - 1925, Gothic style. The edifice is the most important creation of architect I.D. Berindei, being built, in part, on the remains of the old royal medieval court, documentary mentioned in 1434. Until 1955 it was the palace of justice and administration. The Museum Complex consists of four major museums: Museum of History of Moldova - Archeology, History; Ethnographic Museum; Museum of Science and Technology.

On completion of the construction participated several subcontractors and suppliers in Europe, scientist Henri Coanda and architect I.D. Berindei, who ensured a high quality, in terms of using common materials.

The building, designed without joints, with two construction systems, the metal structure on the center and masonry, required after some time (16 years) new building works in 1938, continued after the earthquake of 1940. The damage became more pronounced after the earthquake in August 1986 when cracks and crevices appeared, significant damage to the walls, ceilings and decorative elements.
