Museum of National History and Archeology was founded in 1878 and had a stable place only in  the year 1914. In 1977, the museum was refurbished in the current form, with a centenary celebration of the return of Dobrogea to the Romanian state. The museum is housed in a monumental building (the former seat of the mayor of Constanta), built between 1911-1921 by the architect Vasile Stefanescu.

The Museum of National History and Archeology from Constanta
is the second institution of its kind in Romania (after the one in Bucharest), with a touching heritage and an interesting illustration of the history of Dobrogea from the Paleolithic until the present. Among the famous exhibits we mention: Glycon Snake, god of the house and family, 2-3 century AD, Fortuna and Pontos, two patrons of the city and port,  2-3 cntury AD, the Hamangia Thinker and his wife - Neolithic art found at Cernavoda. A room dedicated to the poet Ovidius Naso and a comprehensive lepidarium, in the museum's yard
