Nako Castle

judetul Timis, Banat

AddressLoc. Sannicolau Mare,

In 1864 Count Nako Kalman built Nako Castle, which later became Nako family's residence in this area of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After selling the Habsburg crown’s areas, in the late nineteenth century, and the appearance of large agricultural properties, many Hungarians, Germans and Croats noblemen built in the Banat area castles, summer palaces, mansions, after the "typical" royal courts of Vienna, with high towers, huge stables and parks that extend for many hectares.

Only after a hundred years after buying the domain of the family Sannicolau by the Nako family, the count began building the edifice that was to remain in the memory of people as Nako Castle, without regard to destinations it took over the XX century.

Like most castles and mansions built in the county in the first half of the nineteenth century, Nako Castle was designed in a neoclassical architectural style, being placed in a large park with rare species of trees. The central element of Nako Castle is the tower of medieval inspiration, which was essential in the volumetric organization of this building of large proportions, which initially included not less than 99 rooms. According to fashion that time, the castle had a large terrace opened to the park with rare essences, structured after landscape art rules of that time.
