Otilia Cazimir Memorial House

Iasi, judetul Iasi

Phone0232 115231
AddressBucsinescu, 4

Otilia Cazimir Memorial House was built in 1858, where the poet Otilia Cazimir (1894 - 1967) lived between 1908 to 1967. The house was purchased in 1908 by school teacher Gheorghe Gavrilescu, father of Gavrilescu Alexandra (1894 - 1967), which later became poet Otilia Cazimir.

The architectural style is characterized by discretion and simplicity, being specific to the middle class of Romanian society of the last century. In 1898, the family of the future writer Otilia Cazimir acquired the house by auction and at the age of four years and until her death, Otilia Cazimir lived only here. The house was organized as a museum in June, 1972.

The basic exhibition was arranged in two rooms in which the poet usually received their guests and worked until later in the night.
There are presented icons, paintings signed by Victor Mihailescu Craiu and Nicolae Constantin, manuscripts, original photographs, Moldovan carpets, books with autograph, furniture and three hundred of the poet's personal belongings. The objects are presented in two rooms and a hall, presenting also the environment in which the writer lived and created.

The museum has hired a curator in charge of receiving and guidance for visitors, organizes cultural events related to personality and looks after Otilia Cazimir's heritage. Each year, the museum threshold is passed by almost three thousand people. As Otilia Cazimir was and remains a children writer, most of the audience consists of students, but the house is also visited by many students and retirees. The building is preserved quite well and is in a good state of preservation, being surrounded by a garden with flowers which the writer loved.

Open: 09.00-17.00, Tuesday-Sunday, Monday closed
