Princely House Museum from Brebu

judetul Prahova, Muntenia

Phone0244 357731
AddressLoc. Brebu,

Near Campina, in a field located on the left of river Doftana is Brebu township. Brebu medieval complex is formed of the precinct wall, the bell tower, the church and the royal house and is one of the most valuable historical monuments which belong to the eighteenth century in Prahova County.

The enclosure wall was built of brick and river stones, giving the place a polygonal irregular track. The access is done under the tower - bell, solid brick building with four floors and a height of about 30 meters. The church, begun in June 27th 1650 (the 7158 creation of the world), in the reign of Matei Basarab and Constantin Brancoveanu, according to the inscription situated between the nave and the narthex, was built in trefoil shape and is equipped with three towers.

The architecture follows the model of Dealu Monastery Church (XVI century), the exterior decoration is the work of Wallachian and Moldavian artosts, identical to the bell tower. The Royal House, with rectangular and thick walls, is a living space with eight rooms, equipped with loggia and terrace pavilion.

The ground floor, which is located above two monumental cellars from the basement of the building, is endowed with support pillars and arches. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, famous Romanian artists have arrived in town Brebu being attracted by the picturesque beauty of the landscape and the medieval complex; among them we count Sava Hentia, Stefan Luchian, Nicolae Grigorescu.

In the Princely House rooms, the Museum of History and Archeology Prahova opened an exciting exhibition of art and medieval history, to document the visitors. We can admire a secular and ecclesiastical culture specific to the Romanian Country of XVII century.

Initially completed with the support of Nicolae Simache - founder of the museums Prahova and subsequently completed with new and interesting exposures, the museum presents to the visitors moments of the Romanian civilization through the XVII and XVIII centuries.
