ProEtnica Festival

ProEtnica Festival - to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence between the minorities from Romania, in number of 20, and the majority, the Association the Interethnic Educational Center for Youth from Sighisoara organizez since 2001 in the second half of August, the festival "ProEtnica - Days of the ethnic communities in Romania". This multicultural event offers ethnic communities from Romania the opportunity to present to the public issues regarding their own culture, traditions and customs.

Echoes from the press and the presence of over 30,000 people annually, mostly young people, have managed to promote ProEtnica across borders of Sighisoara and even of Romania.
Thus, ProEtnica is one of the most important multiethnic events in the Southeastern Europe.

Over the 2001-2005 editions, the festival took place during 3-4 days. Over time it grew so at the edition from 2006 the festival lasted 10 days. Around 850 participants offer dance and music performances, concerts, puppet shows, debates and conferences, workshops and numerous art and crafts exhibitions.

Traditional and contemporary dance and music shows are performed on stages and in the markets of the city of Sighisoara. At the interactive stage the public is expected to participate together with minorities’ bands in dance and music performances.
In exhibitions there are presented: contemporary and traditional fine art, ethnographicl objects, books and publications. ProEtnica is not limited only at presenting folk, there is also organized a scientific-cultural part by the Institute of International Studies of Babes-Bolyai University and the Association "Dieter Schlesak".
Here people are discussing issues related to the inter-religious dialogue, the Holocaust, multiculturalism, the gulag, ethnic minorities and security.
