Description

St. Nicholas Church was founded by some knezes (Cneaz in Rom.) and built of raw stone at the end of XIVth century. The halidom has a rectangular shape with bell tower in the west side, the church belonging to the Gothic style. The restoration works that took place in the second half of the XIX century resulted in the destruction of a portion of the fresco and repainting another part. Many experts have concluded that out of vaults, the mural is under the lime painting and covers the whole surface of the walls.

In 1994, much of this painting was reconditioned with the support of specialist Dan Caceu, being possible the restoration of the iconographic program, the mural complex being a true testimony of Byzantine art. In the south part of the nave is preserved the votive picture with the founders, with partially preserved inscription, read, translated and published by the historian Silviu Dragomir, inscription which establish the valuable frescoes dating in 1417, but being also a page of Romanian chronic in Transylvania of the XV century: "With the Father’s will and the Son’s help and the realization of Holy Spirit ... Vladislav and his wife Sora ... heavenly emperor was painted the monastery of St. Nicholas for remembrance of him and his people forever, cruelty day of trial of Christ ... Priest Dragosin in 6925 (= 1417) in the month of July 15 was finished and painted by hand ...".
