The museum was opened in 1955, through the concern of a group of engineers and teachers, including: Prof. Univ. Dr. Ioan Curievici, Academician Christofor Simionescu, Ing Marcel Itcovici etc. Since 1994 the museum changed the title of "Polytechnical Museum" in the "Stefan Procopius Museum of Science and Technique". The museum, located at the ground of the Palace of Culture, is divided into several sections:
  • The Energy Section, opened in 1961, publicly presents the main forms of energy used by humanity over time. Here are presented using original artifacts, contributions to the field by Romanian and world personalities;
  • "Sound recording and playback" Section, opened in 1966 took a great extent, for which in 1972 was expanded and reorganized. The collection, unique of its kind in Romania, presents in chronological evolution of registration and all sound playback;
  • The Telecommunication Department was founded in 1984 and presents exhibits divided into four thematic areas: radio, television, telephone and telegraph;
  • The Memorial Museum "Poni-Cernatescu" Department was opened in 1991;
  • The Department of Mineralogy-Crystallography, opened in 1997, includes a series of 126 specimens representing hydroxides and oxides of iron and variety of quartz;
  • The Computers Department established in 2004 shows the evolution of systems during the second half of the twentieth century.
Besides the exhibits specific to the above mentioned sections, can also be viewed collections of cameras, typewriters, calculating machines, meteorological instruments etc. The exhibition has items that are ranked in the national cultural heritage treasure.
