Description

"Stroe S. Belloescu" City Library building was built one hundred years ago. Stroe S. Belloescu philanthropist whose name it has the present institution, came up with the initiative to build a building to serve as headquarters of the municipal library. The building was built from the funds of Stroe S. Belloescu, but on the land purchased by the Municipality.

Because at that time had no public or private land, as now, the City Hall has purchased the land from a citizen. The place where the building is situated clearly show that the founders opted for the best part of the city, for the property to get noticed. In 1909, the National House, as it was called Stroe S. Belloescu Library, was the most imposing structure in Barlad from the aesthetically point of view.
The building was designed so that the architectural value of construction was highlighted by green space area around the building.

The most important aspect is that, from a cultural standpoint, is the first building in which functioned Cultural Center of Barlad. Here was the library and the Mixed Museum of Barlad, which was founded in 1914 and became a specialized cultural institution.
Until 1950 the two institutions have co-existed, and subsequently was provided another space for the museum. Thus, the library and the museum were the first cultural institutions in the city of Vaslui. In the library building also functioned Academy of Barlad Cultural Society and Athenaeum and the Stroe Belloescu National House Association of Reading.

From the documents stored no longer is found the document in which the author of the architectural project is mentioned. It is possible that the model was inspired by Italian architects projects because there was no school of architects in Romania at that time. The building was built on an area of 300 sqm, neoclassical style, typical to the nineteenth century, but with some elements of the architecture of Moldavia.

Respecting tradition, the library of Barlad always organizes cultural activities in the reading room: symposiums, exhibitions of books, literary and musicalmedallions, book launches, meetings with personalities in the cultural field.
The Municipal Library "Stroe S. Belloescu"
, with its age of about 100 years, with deep roots in the cultural traditions of the city, through all its work, complete with new meanings the emblem of nobility of Barlad, which gave many personalities in various fields .
