The Capital Fortress was mentioned in documents for the first time in February 10th 1388, being built in the reign of Petru I Musat (1375 to 1391). The Capital Fortress initially presents a rectangular plan, the south side of 36 m and the east side of about 40 m. The fortress was assumed in case of defense, fortification of earth and wood, arranged to surround certain settlements, reinforced points located in the center of localities or on the main arteries (fortifications of the royal courts and monasteries, but also strategically important fortresses situated or at the border, on the line of Nistru river or inside the close area, sub-Carpathian).

Between these fortifications, the Fortress of Suceava maintained a great reputation over time. Equalizing the military glory and the ideals of independence, the Fortress of Suceava enjoyed a history rich in events and battles and not only, but was often the main element of resistance of region of Moldova against all peoples that wanted to conquer it. Currently, all the architectural Capital Fortress ensemble, the princely residence of Moldova, describes the medieval life from the region of Suceava.
