Tabula Traiana

Orsova, judetul Mehedinti

1908 years ago (25 March 101 AD) Emperor Traian comes out from Rome with an army of 150,000 soldiers (the most powerful army in the world at that time) heads towards Dacia, a mysterious country which binded to the Danube, Mures and the Carpathians with huge walls of limestone and andesite, with monumental offset with long pipelines to carry water "industrial castings" of burned clay, etc. (and now we must add extensive cosmogonic, topographical, mathematical and geometrical, metallurgical, engineering etc.).

Tabula Traiana is on the Serbian shore, near Cazanele Mici, right in the former facility of village Ogradena. On the opposite shore passed the old Roman road with protection parapets. Tabula is set in stone and represents two dolphins and an eagle floating in the sky. Figurines and ornaments are carved in relief, and the writing is carved in stone. Tabula Traiana was built by Romans to commemorate the obstacles met by the Roman army when they crossed the Danube in 101 AD, tabula recalling also the span works performed by Roman government in this region. Over time, the tabula suffered because of the bad weather and the nature, being built above the lake "Portile de Fier", in the same time with the construction of the hidroelectric "Portile de Fier 1".
