Targu Mures National Theater - is known as one of the most significant artistic groups in Romania, totaling over 60 years of existence. From 1946 until 1973 the theater has been operating in the Palace of Culture building.

The current building of the theater, proof of the appreciation of art in Romania, was inaugurated on October 13, 1973. The project was designed by architect Constantin Savescu in Bucharest, awarded in 1973 for this work with the Union of Architects award.
The tapestry work from the main foyer, very valuable, was made by artist Aspasia Burduja from Bucharest.

In 1978, Targu-Mures State Theater was granted by presidential decree, with the title of National Theater because of its rich activity highlighted over time in valuable repertoires, in the many awards obtained at various theater festivals and last but not least, rating.

It is a repertory theater, the only national theater in Romania which comprises two sections - Romanian and Hungarian.
It has a main hall with a capacity of 599 seats, a studio room with 100 seats, 7 workshops, dressing rooms and rehearsal spaces. Opening nights in a season are in number of 18 (9 in Romanian and 9 in Hungarian). There is a total staff of 190, of which 100 represents the artistic staff (actors, literary secretaries, directors, designers, art consultant, designers etc.).
