Teleki Castle from Glodeni

judetul Mures, Transilvania

AddressLoc. Glodeni,

Teleki Castle from Glodeni is one of the most beautiful buildings built in the Empire style in Transylvania. Built by the nobles from who comes its name, it still keeps the charm and beauty of the ancient times.

In 1675, Glodeni estate was bought by count Teleki Mihaly.
Here were built in the same time, in the early nineteenth century, two less known castles of the noble family. One of them, castle from the hill, which had only one floor was demolished by Count Teleki József during the crisis after the World War II. All the estate was split in plots and given to the villagers, in order to build houses. The second castle, that sitll guards the center of the village, was built in empire style, surrounded by a huge courtyard and a romantic park, after the model of boyar courts from Budapest area.

The castle from Glodeni distinguished itself from other such buildings through greatness: the main entrance was marked by Corinthian columns, the interior staircase, parking place of the carriage and spacious and vaulted cellars, were elements of Baroque style and the rooms were very large, decorated with miniature statues. The interior was not richly decorated, but on the walls were exposed works by famous artists of the eighteenth century. Also, the family library was invaluable, because the counts were collecting books from all around the world.

The last owner of the estate was Count Teleki Karoly. Currently, the castle from Glodeni is still owned by the Romanian state. The building was well kept, all the estate being in good condition. A few years after nationalization, in 1952, here was based the Care and Support Center for people with disabilities.
