The Art Museum presents universal paintings (Dutch, Flemish, French and Italian school) and Romanian paintings (the XVI - XX centuries,  works of Constantin Lecca, Theodor Aman, Stefan Luchian, Nicolae Tonitza), 7 sculptures by Constantin Brancusi, a collection of icons, Romanian graphics. The art collections are housed in a late baroque style palace, architectural monument, built in 1900-1907, by the French architect Paul Gottereau. In 1913, this building hosted King Carol I and his family. Between 19 September-9 October 1939 was hosted the Polish Government in his hodeaway, together with Eduard Smigli-Ritz, and between November 5-25 December 1939 was hosted the Polish president, Ignacy Muscicki.

The Art Museum works in this building since 1954 and has a valuable cultural heritage of over 4,000 works of art collected and preserved for years. For over 40 years, the Art Museum functioned as a foundation in the "Pinacoteca Alexandru and Aretia Aman" in the building made available by donors. The old palace of the Grigore Laceanu family, today Library "Alexandru and Aretia Aman", was consolidated, modified and extended to respond to new cultural destinations. The heritage of the museum has at the base the donation of the family Aman, and was enriched by numerous acquisitions, as well as donations of the families Glogoveanu, N.P. Romanescu, Barbu Druga, Ion M. Georgescu, constituting in time as an artistic treasure with two distinct components:
  • The Universal Art Gallery - valuable works of Dutch, Flemish, French and Italian School are presented, of which we denote "Saint Apolonia" by Ghiodarolo Giovanni Maria, "Portrait of a man" by Jacob Backer Adriaensz, "June Month" and "December Month" by Leandro da Ponte Bassano, "Young Bach" by Carlo Dolci, and other works of art signed by Jan Wiynants, Frederik Moucheron, Cornelis van Poelenburgh, Adriaen van Ostade, Willem Claesz Heda, J.Fr. Raffaelli, Al.Varotari etc.
  • The Romanian Art Gallery - has exceptional creations signed by Constantin Brincusi, sculptor of global value (Vittelius, Vanity, Head of a Girl, Head of a Boy, The kiss, The thigh, Miss Pogany), as well as paintings by Th. Aman, Constantin Lecca, Nicolae Grigorescu, Ion Negulici, Stefan Luchian, Iosif Iser, Octav Bancila, Camil Ressu, Nicolae Tonitza, Gh Tattarescu, Carol Pop de Szathmary, Ioan Andreescu, Fr. Sirato, Jean Al. Steriadi, Th. Pallady, Eustatiu Stoenescu, Al. Ciucurencu, H. Catargi, Corneliu Baba (detail), Anghel Chiciu, Karol Stork, Ion Jalea, Gh.D. Anghel, Ion Irimescu, Ion Tuculescu etc.
The basic exhibition includes the Cabinet "Constantin Brancusi" which presents the great sculptor's works preserved in the museum collections. The Romanian Art Gallery and Foreign Art Gallery, special attractions, are filled with exhibitions devoted to great Romanian and foreign art personalities.
