The multitude of journals, magazines and papers created by the printing machine is preserved as some real treasures on the shelves of "Mihai Eminescu" Library. In February 2006, the library had a heritage which included a total of 2,426,209 bibliographic units.
The Central Academic Library, halidom of culture, is the documentary base needed in the knowledge assimilation process.

Currently it holds in Iasi offices of three institutions: the British Council, the Center of educational advisory committee of Fulbright and  German Library of Iasi. The library was built between 1930-1934 by the engineer Emil Pragner, according to architect Constantin Jotzu's plans, being one of the four central libraries in Romania. The interior of this architectural monument is made of Carrara marble and Venetian mosaic, and the exterior is decorated with sober and elevated Ionic style columns, pilasters, small triangular shaped frontons and medallions with the founders of our nation and founders of the national culture. For a while the great poet Eminescu was director here, working on the welfare of the library which today has his name.

The library closed its doors because of the earthquakes or war in 1944, but it reopened, with the plan of hoarding the cultural memory, methodological coordination and researches. The readers have access to the catalogs for all the documents, home loan publications, access to collections in the reading rooms.

The Central Academic Library hosts in its deposits a rare piece, a work of an exceptional value for Romanian culture "Evanghelia cu invatatura de Coresi" printed in 1581, being the oldest Romanian book existent in Iasi. The size of the cultural treasures is completed by the pages of the "Cazania lui Varlaam", the first book appeared in 1643 at the first printing of Moldova, Dosoftei House.

These two books are among the most valuable works held in the library, located in the special collections department of the Central Library. "Mihai Eminescu" Library represents tradition and continuity, education, research and culture, which contributed to the reputation of Iasi as "cultural capital".
