Description

Valcea County History Museum  is sheltered in the building of the former "School with Clock", a representative building for the Ramnicu Valcea city, from the nineteenth century.

The permanent exhibition is arranged chronologically, revealing the years of uninterrupted civilization in these places, which lie along Olt Valley, at the foot of the Carpathians. The permanent exhibition opens with archaeological testimonies from the Paleolithic, Neolithic and the Bronze Age set in a modern graphical work.

The Roman conquests period is presented through the reconstituted archaeological sites from Stolniceni, Ocnita, Roman Camp Arutela - Caciulata and the imperial silver coins thesaurus which was found at Paduretu (Babeni).

Middle Ages life in Valcea can be known through the discoveries made in the central park of the city, from Inatesti, Ostrov and Budesti hermitages, where monetary treasures from XVIth century were found, and some exhibits representing in original and facsimile documents from VIII th century. The exhibition has also art objects from XVI-XVII centuries, made in Brasov or coming from transit trade, which were exposed in two interior halls: one peasant and one manorial.

The contribution of the people from Valcea to the revolution of 1821 and 1848, to the foundation of the modern state and the War of Independence in 1877 is highlighted through exhibits: documents, chromolithographs and weapons. Through exposing the old times images from the literary press and printings published by personalities from Valcea, it was tried to emphasize the development of the spiritual and cultural-educational life in this region. In the show case are exposed textbooks, memorial objects, portraits of representative personalities from Valcea: Anton Pann, Petrache Poienaru, Dimitrie Draghicescu, Gib Mihaescu, Cecilia Cutescu-Stork.
