Initially, although its inventory possessed an illustration by time, from origins until the present, of the evolution of technique and technology of production and processing of iron, the museum was not part of a program itself of tourist interest. Only in 1989 the administration of SC Siderurgica SA decided to begin the intercession for rearranging the Iron Museum to join this national museum circuit.

The Iron Museum
presents interesting information related to the development of techniques and technologies for the production and processing of iron in Hallstatt until today. The Iron Museum focuses on issues related to the evolution of technological processing of iron, processing iron tradition, and the educational side.

The museum is divided in several sectors, each illustrating various chronological stages in the history and evolution of techniques for extraction and processing of iron. Dacian period shows the extraction and processing techniques of iron, tools, ovens, weapons and artifacts that give a picture of the spread of this occupation in the Dacian Kingdom.

The Daco-Romanian period illustrates the findings of Hunedoara, weapons, tools, ovens. A model describes how was structured the workshop of iron processing, dated in the II century, discovered at Teliuc. An interesting exhibit is the column molding found in the workshop from Teliuc, as proof of intensive exploitation of iron deposits. The stand also includes an iron hand glass discovered in the necropolis in Sanpetru hill in Hunedoara, beside the relics discovered in the necropolis in village Cincis.

The stand on the Medieval Age illustrates the evolution of extraction of iron furnaces in the nineteenth century. Furnace model in Houses Valley - Ghelar is represented and the photocopy of the model that is found in the Museum of Science and Technology of London.

In this part appear as exhibits agricultural tools, weapons, tools for the blacksmith and mill discovered in Hunedoara region. "Specific workshops of XVI - XIX" - shows models of workshops that have functioned in Hunedoara (workshops Cerna, Plosca, Toplita, Perintei, Baia de Coase, Baia de Sape, etc.). "The beginnings of modern metallurgy" – describes the moment of official foundation of Iron Factories in Hunedoara (12.06.1884), and an extensive documentary material describing this period.
