Description

The ones who want to really know Beius and the area of Beius Country need to start with a visit at the Municipal Museum.
The museum has two basic exhibitions of history and ethnography, since 1985 and also an expanded space for the numerous temporary exhibits of art, science of nature etc. The number of displayed items is over 3000.

In the historical exhibition important documents can be seen, representative pieces for the past of this area, numismatic items, that talk about human habitation here since the Palaeolithic, continuing with the Roman occupation, with the Middle Ages, which personalize the city of Beius giving it the rank of city since the 15th century. In the history exhibition is represented the fight of the Romanians in this area to obtain social and national rights during the Austro-Hungarian occupation and for the union with the country. This current building which houses Beius Municipal Museum is a historic monument, built in late nineteenth century in Baroque eclectic style, is the former house of Vasile Ignat and his son-in-law Dr. Ioan Ciordas, martyr of the battle for the unification of Transylvania with Romania. The museum works in this building probably since 1965.

The exhibition reserved to ethnography illustrates through the valuable pieces the traditional occupations of the people which provided them with a millennial existence and continuity. Representative pieces related to the agriculture, animal breeding, but especially about handicrafts practiced are exposed here.

Since medieval ages, in the period of major agricultural cycles, whole villages were specialized in: carpentry and building houses (Budureasa, Burda, Cresuia, Tarcaita etc.), blacksmiths (Vascau, Varzari, Briheni), pottery (Saliste, Leheceni, Cristior, Lelesti etc.). lime processing (Meziad, Izbuc Budureasa etc.), domestic textile industry in all the villages, harvesting of medicinal plants ( Poieni) and others.

Also, representative pieces of the traditional port in the area are exposed, of a great beauty in their diversity and unity.
Also  a peasant house interior is reconstituted. In the temporary exhibitions of the museum are present popular creators and well-known artists of the city, the county or country. There can be seen interesting collections of natural science, exotic animals, snakes, butterflies. At the museum one can obtain information about the tourist potential of the area, about its valorization, especially in agro tourism development perspective.
