The Museum of History and Archeology is hosted by an imposing edifice, architectural and historical monument, former secondary boys school St. Peter and Paul, whose foundation was poured on May 31, 1865 in the reign of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, after the plans of the architect Alexander Orascu.

The museum’s collection
includes a permanent exhibition, inaugurated on September 1, 1975 and totals exhibits representative for the national history, the original testimonies of people's lives over time, in Prahova County.

Devastated by the earthquake of 1977 and 1980, the History and Archeology Museum was closed in early 1990. Until 1995 the building that hosted the museum supported extensive restoration.

The County Museum of History and Archeology
exhibits relics of the Prahova region’s evolution of human civilization through an endowment of 150,000 objects. The valorification of the museum’s heritage was done by the partial opening of the first halls in November 30, 1996: permanent exhibition, medal cabinet, the cabinet of numismatics, the room dedicated writer IABassarabescu and the Lapidary.

On November 29, 1997, the museum gets a new place of exposure through its integration in the circuit visiting of the hall of “Mihai Viteazul and Ploiesti "- along with the celebration of 400 years of documentary attestation of Ploiesti, the hall "Prahova sport through time" and the hall which has archaeological vestiges form Targsor Reserve.
