The Royal Castle

judetul Arad, Crisana

AddressLoc. Savarsin,

The Royal Castle from Savarsin is owned by the Romanian royal family, being located on the land from Savarsin, Arad county. In place of the current building, in the eighteenth century there was the castle of the noble family Forray. On June 9, 1784, was kidnapped from here the county administrator Andrei Forray (senior) by the outlaws let by Petre Baciu.

The head of the county government was released only after completion of the outlaws claims, by himself Joseph II, Emperor of Vienna. In a short time, November 3, 1784, arrived here Horia Closca and Crisan's bands, who were rejoined with the serfs from the field.

Rebuilt in the early nineteenth century, in neoclassical style, fitted with floor and a beautiful balcony, the Royal Castle's building suffered during decades numerous interior and exterior changes. The castle is situated in a splendid park with a lake and a marina. After the royal domain from Savarsin was confiscated by communists in 1948, like all other royal property, the Royal Castle returned to the possession of the King, on June 1, 2001. Princess Margaret initiated actions to restore the park and the house in the same style created by Queen Mother Elena in 1943.
