Description

The Royal Big Church was built by Petru cercel under the shape of a Greek cross (like the church from Curtea de Arges and Metropolitan from Targoviste) that were used as a model. The porch is surrounded on 3 sides by 12 pillars of masonry. The narthex is built with a small semi-cylindrically vault, ready to center on the axis of entry and the one side and another, the 2 small towers.

The narthex is where graves of families Matei Basarab, Balasa (wife of Constantin Serban) were situated. The nave, with a square shape, is covered by 4 vaults, surrounded by 4 pillars of masonry laid out symmetrically, vaults supporting the big tower.

Spaces between the equal arms of the cross are covered with domes. Apse of the altar is large and supported by other 2 smaller aisles, covered with semi-cylindrical vaults.

On the western side of the nave there is a balcony supported by a vault that is also supported by 2 stone pillars and a colonnade of rock. On the left of the entry are the impressive portraits of princes: Matei Basarab, Neagoe Basarab in the western side of the narthex: Petru Cercel and Constantin Brancoveanu on the right side of the entry: Radu Serban, Michael the Brave, Serban Cantacuzino, Constantin Serban and Radu Mihnea.

Among the valuable pieces that furnish the church are the iconostasis, wood sculpture, carved and gilded with gold pieces, with the royal coat of arms of the Romanian Land on the register above the door and the upper baguette, the founding year is encrusted with Cyrillic and Arab figures: 1693.
