The Stone Ravens Monastery

judetul Arges, Muntenia

Corbii Monastery is located in the namesake village, on the road Campulung-Domnesti.
Corbii monastery is partly a cave complex dating from the fourteenth century.
But over time, the monastery was certified from time to time by different name: the Monastery from Meris, Meris Monastery or Merisul monastery.

According to documents Stone Ravens Monastery was restored in 1512 by nun Magdalina during the time of Neagoe Basarab (1512-1521).
Nun Magdalina, the founder who reestablished the place of worship from Stone Ravens as a monastic settlement, was prince Neagoe Basarab’s aunt. This connection between the prince and the founder explains the monastery’s rendering, a few months after refoundation, to Prince Neagoe.

The monastery is dug in rock, a space that looks like a sort of outdoor court. About this there is evidence that was used by Neagoe Basarab (author of "Lessons of Neagoe Basarab to his son Theodosius') to held public trials in which he had authority.

Stone Ravens Monastery has a great value not only because of the way it was placed in the rock, but also by the mural, which is said to be in the purest Byzantine tradition that belongs to the XIV century. Divine services that are held in the Stone Ravens Monastery only during summer and for the rest of the time the sanctuary is open for visitation.
