AddressCom. Ghioroc,

The museum, arranged in a tour of force in 1988, has archaeological pieces, tools, equipment, documents and photos on the history of viticulture and winemaking on one of the oldest wine-growing areas in the territory of Romania, vineyard Minis - Madeira. There is credible evidence that talk about the practice of viticulture in the area since antiquity. The first documentary attestation of the Minis vineyards dates from XI century. The cultivated area has increased permanently.

Thus, if under the Turkish domination in 1562 are recorded 700 hectares of vineyard planted, in 1746 a half century after the Habsburg domination establishment, there were already more than 2,000 hectares of vineyard, surface tripled in the twentieth century. Wines with denomination of controled origin produced here are red varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Burgundy and white varieties Italian Riesling, Furmint, Muscat Ottonel.

Since 1744, in the Minis-Covasant area is produced the sweet wine from the variety Cadarca. The most important recognition of its quality dates from 1862, when at the International Exhibition from London, a sweet red wine of Minis was called "king of wines".
During the communist regime, they moved to reorganize and intensive exploitation of vineyards, quality losing more and more ground in favor of quantity. After 1989, with the return of vineyard lands, the production decreased, and the projects of economic and tourist boost in the area just begun.

The Vine and Wine Museum Minis / Ghioroc can be visited only by request.
