The big and small cauldrons of Danube

Orsova, judetul Mehedinti

'Dunarii cauldrons' is the most imposing and most interesting sector of the Danube Defile at the south-west and north-east of the town Dubova, between Valley Ogradena and Ogasul Turcului. In this area the Danube crosses the most narrow and the most grandiose area of the Danube Defile, Big Cauldrons being separated by small cauldrons by Dubova water catchment area.
The cauldrons of Danube by means of narrow portion of defile between the mouths of the rivers flowing Plavisevita (south) and Ogradena (in north), form a well individualized geomorphological unity.

Miocene water catchment from Dubova divides the cauldrons of Danube into two distinct portions: Cazanele Mari and Cazanele Mici (the big and small cauldrons).

Big Cauldrons
are situated between Dubova water catchment and Plavisevita. With a length of 3.8 kilometers, are formed of Ciucaru Mare Hill (318 m), whose steep walls edge the left side of the river and Stirbatul Mare Hill (768 m) situated in the territory of Serbia.

Small Cauldrons
are located between Dubova water catchment and Ogradena, with 3.6 kilometers in length. They are constituted of Ciucaru Mic Hill (313 m) and Stirbatul Mic Hill on the territory of Serbia (626 m).
