Turda City Hall

Turda, judetul Cluj

Address1 Decembrie 1918, 28

Description

It was built between the years 1884-1886, in neo-Renaissance style and was initially the building of the Turda-Aries county prefecture.
To the building were used many shaped stones brought from the Roman camp Potaissa from the Fortress Hill. Today can still be seen on the floors the bricks that have the badge of the Legion Macedonica the 5th - LVM.

The construction and  the land cover the entire eastern part of the former Hay Market from that time. In fact, the prefecture was to be built in the downtown market, today the Republic Square. Turda-Aries County was the only county that in that period didn't have its own administrative office, but always rented foreign houses.

In the eighteenth century the county has leased the deposit building from the current Roman Square and in 1849 rented Miko House.
In 1884 the purchase of the lands from Hay Market of families Weer Farkas and Kemery Farkas was approved, then other 2 lands, on which was built the so-called County Palace or Prefecture, according to the plans of architect Halma Andor.

In 1885 the construction of the building was finished and in 1886 was officially open. The building was taken over by the city hall after the abolition of Turda County, the former prefecture of Turda becoming the current City Hall.
