Vestiges of the Roman Town Romula from Resca

Located north of Caracal, on the hearth of the ancient Geto-Dacian settlement Malava, vestiges of the Roman town Romula from Resca was elevated to city at the time of Adrian and to colony during the time of Septimius Severus. Until today were preserved ruins of buildings, temples and baths.

In the area were found traces of habitation belonging to the Neolithic (Boian V culture), the period of transition from the Bronze Age (culture Cotofeni) Bronze Age (Vericioara culture, the final stages), Geto-Dacian Epoca and XIV-XVI centuries. The overall aim of the excavations in 2003 was to extend the research of the pottery production center in the northern Roman city.

The E and V of the Roman road to Acidava (Enosesti), the N and S of wall of Philip the Arabian, is the center (neighborhood) of ceramic production of the northern Roman city Romula. It became the most intensive analyed sector of the archaeological site. The research in this area began in 1965 and continued until 1998 under the leadership of archaeologist dr. George Popilian.

Over time, the group also included, among others, Mircea Negru (1992-1997) and Dan Balteanu (1994-1998). In this area were found a total of 22 brick and pots kiln, a suburban villa, several buildings and two burials in sarcophagi of brick. Ruins of the royal court of Caracal, the former royal residence during rulers Mihai Viteazul (XVI century), Matei Basarab and Constantin Brancoveanu.
