Vulturul Negru Palace

Oradea, judetul Bihor

AddressIndependentei, 1

Vulturul Negru Palace (The Black Eagle Palace) is considered to be an architectural jewel of Oradea. The palace was built between 1907-1908 by the architects Komor Marcell and Jakob Dezso in secession style. The contractor of the work was Sztarill Ferenc. In the place of this buildings was the Green Tree Palace, which had a hall that hosted cultural and political events.

The building is on the corner, with high floor and four levels, consisting of two bodies between which there is a glass passage with access to Independence street, Unirii Square and Vasile Alecsandri street. The main facade towards Unirii Square is asymmetrical, being composed of two large unequal bodies, which best shows the secession style. The facade of the body on Independentei street is orderly and sober.

The central motif is represented by a stressed body, divided into two parts, which end in trilobat Attic with a stained glass in the eardrum. Stained glass with the black eagle became an emblem of the complex and was executed in 1909, in Neumann K. workshop.
The Black Eagle Palace is the most important building of this style of Oradea. The building is multifunctional, comprising at inauguration time, casino, hotel, offices, restaurant, grouped into three asymmetrical bodies. Today in the building functions a hotel, a cinema, three clubs, a few shops and a bank.
